I've always had a passion for the performing arts. When I was in elementary school, I used to write songs and perform them in front of my friends. My mother enrolled me in plays, tap dance lessons, ballet lessons, and hip hop classes, and I eventually performed at Capital University. As I grew older, my talent and passion for the arts continued to grow. I wanted to pursue a career in the arts, but my parents thought it was unrealistic and pushed me towards a more "practical" career.
During my five years in college, I tried out various careers that were supposed to make me money, but I found that they weren't for me. I felt lost and unfulfilled, and my coworkers would often ask me why I was there. Eventually, I became a substitute teacher at an inner city high school to have the flexibility to pursue my dreams without being held back by my employer's restrictions. However, I had to take a significant pay cut, and I lost my health benefits.
Even though the pay cut has been tough on my family, I'm happier now that I can pursue my dreams without having to ask for permission. I may have to take on another part-time job, but being able to live my dreams and inspire others is worth it.
